The J. Martin Klotsche Center
The Klotsche Center, originally erected in 1977, has an even greater new look after a new floor was installed last summer. The floor features a large Panther logo at midcourt and a number of other UWM and Horizon League markings. This comes of the heels of a renovation that was completed while the Pavilion was built. The existing arena now has air conditioning, a new sound system and new concession areas. Fans attending events at the Klotsche Center can park in the Pavilion parking garage and enter the building without ever going outside.
These latest projects are just the most recent pieces of work done to upgrade the home of Panther athletics. The arena area was also renovated prior to the 1998-99 school year. The $2 million project included the addition of comfort and chairback seating. In 1996, new wood flooring and a new indoor track were added to the Klotsche Center.
Men's Basketball At The Klotsche Center
The UWM men's basketball team played a number of its home games in the facility throughout the 1980's and early 1990's, as well as from 1998-2003. Now, in addition to serving as a homecourt for a number of UWM teams, the building is the regular practice facility for the Panther men. Plus, this season, UWM will play two exhibition games and one regular season contest in the building.
When it was the regular homecourt for the Panthers, it became an intensely difficult place for opponents to play. In fact, UWM won its last 16 regular-season games at the Klotsche Center, and won 43 of its final 52 games played in the building.
As a practice facility for the Panthers, it provides eight baskets near the main court. Side courts can also be used for extra shooting practice or other drills while another team's practice is taking place on the main court. Plus, the arena is located on the same level as the men's basketball team room and locker room in the Pavilion, meaning the team is just steps away from its locker room during all practices.
